4th and 5th Grade

Project Title: Egyptian Repoussé


Description:
  • 4th and 5th grade artists were intrigued by the artifacts found in the tombs of Egyptian rulers.  One type of artifact was jewelry worn by pharaohs and queens of the past. The lotus flower, the scarab and the cobra were popular motifs in ancient Egypt.  Students picked an image of their choosing to create a bas-relief of tooling foil.  An Egyptian design was added as a border to complete each piece.

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   David Smith's "White" Sculptures Description: David Smith (1906-1965) was an Abstract Expressionist who made the first iron welded sculpture in America.  His work was viewed during our 5th grade field trip to the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY on October 4th.  Smith's collection of "white" sculptures were featured.  He used white to highlight negative and positive space.  Students collaborated to construct a 3-dimensional  sculpture with a focus on the play of negative and positive space. October 2017 - Edvard Munch Expressionist Art

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Edvard Munch Expressionist Art Description: Edvard Munch (December 12, 1863 – January 23, 1944) was an Expressionist painter and printmaker from Norway.  Students viewed The Scream by Munch and speculated the story behind the painting.  Next, each student drew a person expressing a particular emotion and then added detail (in the background) enhancing the meaning.  An appropriate color background was chosen to reinforce the expression before printing with white ink.  Color was added using a choice of markers, crayons or colored pencils. February 2018 - French Curves

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   French Curves Description: French Curves are architectural tools used in manual drafting to draw smooth curves of varying radii.  A well-developed composition was constructed using a variety of French Curves.  Patterns and color were added within to complete an interesting composition.  The curves encourage rhythm and motion throughout each piece.   Samples of this artistic style:                                                           Vocabulary: French Curves pattern negative and positive space design Resources:  Internet images Materials : French Curve templates thin black sharpies colored pencils drawing paper Examples of student artwork:
