March 2018 - Egyptian Repoussé

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title: Egyptian Re poussé Description: 4th and 5th grade artists were intrigued by the artifacts found in the tombs of Egyptian rulers.  One type of artifact was jewelry worn by pharaohs and queens of the past. February 2018 - French Curves

January 2018 - Robert Rauschenberg Combines

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Robert Rauschenberg Combines Description: 4th and 5th grade artists chose a current topic as a focus for their combines.  Students found photographs, articles, images and found objects that tied into their topic.  A variety of techniques/materials needed to be incorporated into their final piece including tracings, stenciling, paint, cut or ripped paper, etc.  This lesson captures an important moment in time. December 2017 - Art Deco

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Art Deco Description: Art Deco emerged in the 1920's and 1930's as a style characterized by bold geometric shapes and colors.  Evidence of this style can be found in architecture, clothing, advertising and everyday objects.  Students chose a topic to explore while designing an Art Deco picture.  A discussion followed about how popular objects during that era represented luxury and technological progress. November 2017 - Mexican Skeletons

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Mexican Skeletons Description: The Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration to honor friends and family members who have passed away.  Art involving skeletons and skulls is associated with the holiday.  Student artists began by developing a preliminary sketch of their skeleton complete with an accessory and an object.  Next, students planned which tools they would use for printing.  Printing day involved construction of their skeletons in motion.  Accessories and objects were drawn in to add color and interest.
