February 2018 - French Curves

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   French Curves Description: French Curves are architectural tools used in manual drafting to draw smooth curves of varying radii.  A well-developed composition was constructed using a variety of French Curves.  Patterns and color were added within to complete an interesting composition.  The curves encourage rhythm and motion throughout each piece.   Samples of this artistic style:                                                           Vocabulary: French Curves pattern negative and positive space design Resources:  Internet images Materials : French Curve templates thin black sharpies colored pencils drawing paper Examples of student artwork:          

January 2018 - Robert Rauschenberg Combines

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Robert Rauschenberg Combines Description: 4th and 5th grade artists chose a current topic as a focus for their combines.  Students found photographs, articles, images and found objects that tied into their topic.  A variety of techniques/materials needed to be incorporated into their final piece including tracings, stenciling, paint, cut or ripped paper, etc.  This lesson captures an important moment in time.
