November 2017 - Mexican Skeletons

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Mexican Skeletons Description: The Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration to honor friends and family members who have passed away.  Art involving skeletons and skulls is associated with the holiday.  Student artists began by developing a preliminary sketch of their skeleton complete with an accessory and an object.  Next, students planned which tools they would use for printing.  Printing day involved construction of their skeletons in motion.  Accessories and objects were drawn in to add color and interest. October 2017 - Edvard Munch Expressionist Art

4 th  and 5 th  Grade Project Title:   Edvard Munch Expressionist Art Description: Edvard Munch (December 12, 1863 – January 23, 1944) was an Expressionist painter and printmaker from Norway.  Students viewed The Scream by Munch and speculated the story behind the painting.  Next, each student drew a person expressing a particular emotion and then added detail (in the background) enhancing the meaning.  An appropriate color background was chosen to reinforce the expression before printing with white ink.  Color was added using a choice of markers, crayons or colored pencils.
