Project Title: David Smith's "White" Sculptures

Description:
  • David Smith (1906-1965) was an Abstract Expressionist who made the first iron welded sculpture in America.  His work was viewed during our 5th grade field trip to the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY on October 4th.  Smith's collection of "white" sculptures were featured.  He used white to highlight negative and positive space.  Students collaborated to construct a 3-dimensional  sculpture with a focus on the play of negative and positive space.
